Parenthood & IVF
Their Story

Like many aspiring parents, Matt and Lisa Kaulig waited for a positive pregnancy test. As month after month passed with no success, the couple realized that it was time to explore other options.

After visiting Reproductive Gynecology & Infertility, they were able to explore in vitro fertilization and, eventually, start a family. Inspired by the superb care they received and the hope that their daughter, Samantha, brought them, the Kauligs have established a fund in her honor.

Their hope is that the fund will help aspiring parents afford the cost of IVF and bring home their own miracle baby.

A Letter from Lisa

Dear Reader,

My name is Lisa, and I have been in your shoes. I met my husband, Matt, in 1992 at the University of Akron. He was there on a football scholarship, and I was a cheerleader. We dated for six years, finally tying the knot in 1998. We aimed to start a family within a few years, but each month brought disappointment and negative pregnancy tests. We realized that we may not be able to get pregnant on our own, and we decided, like you, to look into other options.

We found Reproductive Gynecology and Infertility in Akron (RGI), and it was comforting to know that there were people dedicated to helping us. After tests pointed us in the direction of intrauterine insemination and it failed, we realized that IVF was the natural next step. At first it was overwhelming with the required office visits and medications, but we were committed to growing a family. My first IVF failed, and then our frozen transfer failed as well. After a short break to recover from the stress of these failed pregnancies, we returned to RGI and discovered that I had endometriosis and needed to have several fibroids treated and removed. After an additional surgery and another round of IVF, we finally conceived and were on our way to parenthood.

Samantha was born in 2007, and she’s the light of our lives. Without the amazing staff at RGI, we would not have our beautiful, thriving, and loving daughter. Our hope is that a fund in her honor will allow other families to experience having their own children. We hope to help families afford the cost of IVF and one day bring home their own miracle babies. And, most importantly, we’re here to give you hope… because we’ve been in your shoes.

Sincerely,
Lisa Kaulig
